About me

No doubt you would have seen many opening statements such as this, but like many photographers, I was introduced to my first camera at an early age.

Little did I realise at that time, that this was going to progress from a not so low cost hobby to what it has develpoed in to today.

My thanks to have to go to my parents, who regulary took pictures and cine film of my sisters and I and then created presentation evenings to show the home movies, much to our excitement. Recording key moments in our young lives, seeing the emotions we shared, subliminally fed a desire in me to capture those special moments in a picture, that can never be repeated. In that, I saw true value that many people would cherish.

Many years of taking pictures of family and friends, in a candid documentary style, lead me to explore street photography. Capuring raw emotions, nothing staged or contrived, simple images that tried to concentrate on the eyes of the subject.

Afterall, it is all in the eyes. Emotions cannot be hidden in the eye, everything is exposed, even when the eyes are closed.

This style was used for two major blue chip companies who wanted to record corporate events with their major clients exactly as they unfolded.

My second love was night time photography. What a whole new world that opened to a relatively young mind. Grey skies were not so grey but a beautiful blue. Combined with different man made lights the final picture was peppered with reds, oranges, greens, yellows, a true night "rainbow".

Timing for this style of photography is critical. With only a few minutes to capture these images, you have to be prepared, disciplined and have clear idea of what the image was going to be like once the shutter had closed. This really concentrates the mind and is great experience for other styles of photography.

Without doubt, I know that I have been very fortunate to have taken pictures in many iconic locations and met many wonderful people.

It has been a privilege to capture and record these moments and one I hope continues.

That's the moment, that's the picture!
